Why Food Supplements?

"By the time that processed foods reach you, they may have been shipped and stored, trimmed, blanched, frozen, canned, condensed, dehydrated, pasteurized, sterilized, smoked, cured, milled, roasted, cooked, toasted or puffed. What's left of their composition after any combination of those tortures is then liable to be further stolen by heat, light, oxygen, oxalates, anti-vitamins, acidity, alkalinity, metal catalysts, enzymes, and irradiation.” (Cheraskin et al. 1983:29)

"The next logical step from such radical adulteration of the bounty of the earth is to fix things so that you can bypass Mother Nature--and the farmers trying to make a living tending her--entirely. According to the United States General Accounting Office, almost 80% of the additives in foods are cosmetic. Instead of the bright yellow color and tangy-sour taste of lemonade, we get sodium caseinate and artificial flavoring; instead of the deep ebony color and rich dark flavor of real chocolate pudding, we get cotton-based synthetics; instead of creamy milk and smooth ice cream in our shakes, we get fat solids. An ever increasing proportion of the food we eat is no longer even food but is now a conglomerate of high-priced chemistry experiments designed to simulate food.” (Sitt 1981: 72)

Shaklee's supplements are nothing short of living food; they are high-powered food tablets that your body knows how to use. Shaklee's supplements are different; they make people feel better. The supplements contain enzymes that are kept alive as they are extracted from the plants. The supplements provide nutrients in amounts relevant to the body, in a form that can be readily absorbed, with no hidden fillers, artificial colors or flavors. Most vitamins in supplements are petroleum extracts, coal tar derivatives, and chemically processed sugar (plus sometimes industrially processed fish oils), with other acids and industrial chemicals (such as formaldehyde) used to process them. These can not replace natural vitamin activities.

One key part of a basic Shaklee nutrition program is a protein powder. It's important to realize the importance of high quality protein. It's not actually the protein that is so important but the amino acid content of the protein that is so significant. There are nine essential amino acids that make up protein and each of these nine amino acids must be consumed every day in different amounts to start the process that builds the 22-life support system for optimum health. It takes so much of certain vitamins and minerals to digest and utilize our food. If they are in short supply the body must rob them from the storage cells, which is constantly depleting our bodies. The enzymes in the protein powder open the door to the cells and allow the body to fully utilize the nutrients that you take in from your food and supplements.

The key is that protein cannot be heated over 110 degrees or the amino acid activity is lost and the enzymes are no longer alive. Shaklee has a protein that is miles ahead of any competitor. The product is alive and bio-available to the body in about 35 minutes! Shaklee uses only non-genetically modified (GMO) soy protein certified through an Identity Preservation Program (IPP). This program assures that the soy we use is tightly monitored and controlled from planting and harvesting to processing.

Has the time come to change our eating habits?
